Charles Ellner, Brut Seduction Épernay 1999

Charles Ellner Brut Seduction 1999 - second

Quite a developed, golden color.  Pinot inflected nose: lots of apple, cheese and buttery puff-pastry.  Full, very gentle mousse, soft, forthright, welcoming.  Swollen yet expressive palate.  A touch of cordite on entry; closes with a mix of marzipan, ginger beer and candied citrus.  We could have used a bit more zip but this is in a good place now.  This is à point; drink these up over the next couple years.  Certainly worth exploring if your preferred style includes the oxygenation you get from barrique fermentation.  Now – 2015.
