Domaine Robert Groffier Père et Fils, Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze Grand Cru 1996

Robert Groffier Père et Fils, Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze 1996
Rich, wide nose: espresso and toffee-inflected, a bit sweet.  Some menthol too.  Slightly dense.  Better on the palate: full, vigorous, a little lower toned than some, but very concentrated, carnal and savory.  Fullish body.  Some tannin still be resolved.  Harmonious acidity, no’ undue ’96’ here.  Shows the amplitude and might of one our favorite grand crus but offers little insight into its elegance.  For me a little too robust; would have liked to see a little more grace.  Admittedly, I was in the minority.  For many it was the WOTN.  À chacun son goût!  Now – 2026.
