Full, immature ruby red color. Concentrated, penetrating, backward nose: smoky, peaty, mineral infused red and dark fruit; as yet uncooked top grade loin meat; five-spice, soy, hoisin. Creamy rich, well-endowed palate, the texture of fine-grained satin: griotte cherry, black raspberry, cassis. Seriously structured. Formidable but aristocratic tannins. Very fine grip. Smouldering acidity. This one is a palate thumper. Hypnotic mineral length. Already superlative is area of complexity, profundity, class and depth of character. Grand cru quality. A very fine Gaudichots and a wine for the rockheads among you. Still a long way from maturity; this will improve dramatically once it tapers some of its youthful, sauvage character. From 2016 – 2030+.
Gaudichots is but one hectare of vines made up from three separate parcels, all bordering the grand cru La Tâche, the monopole of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti (in fact, DRC sells of their 1er Cru Gaudichots in bulk to other producers such as … Nicky Potel).
