Ripe, substantial, complex nose: mint, hay, white mocha, toasted cereal and vanilla wafer. Moreish palate, medium-full, with tinges of smoke and musk: lightly cooked white fruits, cola and butterscotch. Masculine. Terrific zip for a ’76. And nicely grippy too. Mineral flavors and an autumnal finish. A joyous wine; fully mature but still very fresh, very precise. Left us glowing with elation, this one. And with its firm backbone, Pol Roger’s Brut ’76 will keep very well.
