Château La Gomerie, Saint-Émilion 1996

Gomerie 1996 #4

A crimson of moderate depth, mature rim.  Super cuvée (vin garagiste) from the Bécot brothers at Château Beau-Séjour Bécot. Plump, soft, spherical nose: spiced black fruit, spent violet, olive tapenade, formosa black tea.  A soot-y earthiness.  Capacious on the palate, medium-full: dark plum, loganberry, fig, spicecake.  Good substance here.  Not a lot of backbone but good grip and freshness.  Built oaky and extracted without being obvious or aggressive.  Now – 2016.
