Canard-Duchêne, Brut ‘Cuvée Léonie’ Ludes Non Vintage

Canard Duchene Leonis NV

40% Pinot Noir, 40% Pinot Meunier and 20% Chardonnay. Current release.

Water-pale.  Fresh and straightforward on the nose:  yeasty loquat, peach pit, citrus rind, baked bread and sea spray.  Similarly direct and a bit lean on the the palate.  Light to medium body.  Frothy mousse.  Bead is plentiful if a bit course.  It is clean, balanced and correct … but all so very Wonder Bread-ish.  In character and style, a bit too bland and commercial.   And way too easy to peg.  OK quaff but nothing serious to this at all.  To which Barb will always remind me, “why do they all have to be so serious?”. For drinking soon.
