Château de Fargues, Sauternes 1988

Fargues 1988 #2

Fargues 1988

Made by the same team at Yquem.  Copper gold color.  Lavish, gilded and fragrant on the nose: elderflower, orange blossom, beeswax honeycomb, vanilla custard and hot buttered toast.  Quite a bit of oak.  A sappy fruit-salad on the fully-textured palate: apricot, passion fruit, serville orange, honey tangerine.  Good levels of botrytis here.  Butter twist at the end.  Complex and stylish but the acidity and grip on both the ’89 and ’90 are a bit firmer and a bit finer than this ’88. Now – 2020+.
