Twenty-five years on tasting.
A medium oxblood red with paling salmon tinges, faded pink-orange rim. A fullish, broad and vigorous nose: lightly macerated red and black fruit, five-spice, old roses, black tea, mineral and a touch of the stems. The nose is warm, with a touch of balsamic, although it comes down on the side of sweet instead of overtly acetic. Stylish, concentrated and a bit like fruit preserve on the palate, medium-full: blackberry coulis, framboise confiture, cherry cola. Barb says “jammy .. but in a good way; nothing is overdone”. Still some ’88 afterburner on this bottle, with speed racer acidity that left tracks on our palate. Maybe not our favorite Suchots from ’88 but intense, individual and interesting for sure. A fine bottle. Now – 2018.
