Diageo Chateau & Estate Wines, New York NY.
From Trimbach’s grands cru holdings in Geisberg and Osterberg.
White gold. Racy, precise and a touch fusel on the nose: hay, citrus zest, balsam, talc and an ocean salinity. Not closed in but still a bit four-square. Bone dry, rigorous and concentrated on the palate: pomelo, blood orange, kaffir lime. Intense but somewhat withdrawn; subsumed a bit by its almost metallic minerality. Needs time to find its generosity; give it another three years. Another low-fat, mineral-rich offering from Trimbach and a fine bottle of Fred. Now – 2020+.
