49% Pinot Noir; 36% Chardonnay; 14% Pinot Meunier. A blend of grand cru and premier cru vineyards.
Antique bronze. A broad, estery nose: slightly bruised white fruit, beeswax honeycomb, hints of apple cider and maple flavors, brazil nut. Open and rich on the palate, medium full, with streaks of musk and bouillon: a mature fruit bowl of apple, pear, persimmon and fig. Barb says “cream soda and orange-blossom honey”. A citric acidity. Gentle, lush and enriching mousse. A fine, sparse bead of pin-prick bubbles. Not the greatest depth and it runs a little fat but a good ’85 and holding up well. The ’82 of this wine is a little more complex and will keep longer. Drink soon (but no rush to drink).
Jesus. I wish I could write a wine note like that.
