Unknown disgorgement date. Purchased from the Taittinger facility in Reims in 1980.
A copper gold color. Bold and exuberant on the nose: musky orchard fruit, singed toffee, butterball, walnut oil and burnt orange custard. Barb says, “Cracker Jacks and leather”. A touch of the bonfires too. Exotic doesn’t quite do it justice; this Taittinger has a playful kink to it. A decadent, crème brûlée texture on the palate: lush, voluptuous and oh so sweet. Bead surprisingly still has some game. Acidity is AWOL: thinking a fair amount of ’76 grapes made it into this blend ?? This wine is not about depth, complexity or class: this is more akin to bubblegum pop music when its well-executed. Catchy, enormously seductive, loads of charm. Drink soon.
