Villa Poggio Salvi, Brunello di Montalcino 1997

Salvi Brunello 1997

Full ruby color, a touch of fading at the rim.  Stylish, ripe, voluptuous nose: slightly spiced black fruit, panforte, nut oil, barrel tones and Tuscan earth.  Concentrated and rich without the fat.  A lush, fleshy wine with good definition: blackberry jam, dark skinned plum, Christmas pudding.  Fullish body and texture.  Kitten teeth acidity.  Firm, ripe tannin.  A nice length.  Definitely new-wave Brunello: oaky and extracted but nothing was overdone.  This has aged well.  A fine bottle of Brunello.  Now – 2017.
