Schloss Vollrads, Riesling Spätlese Rheingau 2001

Vollrads Spatlese 2001 #2

This is AP#35.

Green-gold.  Some substance but a touch of attenuation on the nose: fusel, malt, butter sautéed apple.  Pleasant, fruit-driven attack on the palate: apple tart, lime honey, ripe pear.  But it tails off on the finish.  Forward.  We fear the two major hailstorms in this part of the Rheingau compromised the quality here.  What a shame; generally speaking, ’01 is a brilliant vintage for German Riesling.  Now.
