Domaine Louis Boillot et Fils, Volnay Carelle sous la Chapelle 1er Cru 2008

Louis Boillot Volnay 2008

Pale crimson.  Pelucid, focused nose: slightly floral red fruit, peony and stone.  Linear, piquant and pure on the palate, of medium-body: rhubarb, beetroot, rainier cherry.  Late arriving tannin.  Well-judged yet firm acidity.  Shimmery finish.  Lambent, feminine Volnay.   Be mindful of the fact that many of the ’08s are beginning to or have already shut down: think bowlfuls of acidity that appear under-fruited.  This Louis Boillot shows well (Volnays usually do; they have an inherent precocity about them) and will probably be at its best between years ten and fifteen.  Very good for now.  Potentially fine once it throws off its youthful austerity.  From 2016.
