A medium garnet red color, threads of ochre towards the rim. A more assured nose than anticipated. We expected to be blunted by ‘iron fist taped in a boxing glove’ robustness and animale. In fact, this is quite refined: less game, forest floor and sous-bois and more lambent, high-toned and vivacious. Red fruit & citrus palate: rainer cherry, rose hips, pomegranate, freshly honeyed lemon. Quite substantial: luscious and old-viney. Ripe, integrated tannins: not a trace of rudeness here. Very good grip. Well balanced, with a long, mineral finish. Over-delivers for Savigny 1er cru and a lovely rouge by any measure. Now – 2016.
