Domaine du Duc de Magenta (Maison Louis Jadot), Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeot Rouge Clos de La Chapelle 1er Cru 1995

Jadot Morgeot Chapelle Rouge 1995

Full ruby red color, fading pink-orange rim.  Pungent, carnal nose: marrow-rich red fruit, iodine, beef stock, black cardamom and terres rouges stone.  Evinces more game and saline character on the palate with counterpoint berry seed and cherry pit bitterness, medium-full: forest black raspberry, montmorency cherry, groseille.  Some grain and a bit of astringency to the tannin: some of that is climat, some of that is vintage.  Effusive, chalk and beef jus finish.  Your usual Jadot extraction.  Barb says a bit “Cabernet-like structurally”.  Yes, this will always be a bit resolute.  But not hard or brutal.  Just a bit frank .. all the while winning points for transparency and sauvage honesty.  Now – 2015+.
