M. Chapoutier, Saint-Joseph Les Granits Rouge 2003

Chapoutier Joseph Granits 2003 #1

Ten years on tasting.

Opaque ruby.  Ripe with a tilt towards torrefaction: mocha, pumpkin pie and dark berry confiture.  Some secondary notes of lardon and chaparral.  Fullish body; lush, dense and extracted, with more of an impression of sucrosite than we remember.  Enough acidity and peppery lift keeps this on point but these ’03s, while never the first word in site expression, were more suave and focused in years past.  Finish these up over the next two years.  Now – 2015.
