Schloss Schönborn, Hattenheim Nussbrunnen Riesling Auslese Rheingau 1989

Schonborn Auslese 1989 #1Twenty-five years on tasting.

Opaque amber.  Rather one-dimensional.  Burnt toffee flavors.  Undue sweetness.  Bitter finish.  Lacking in all attributes one would expect of an auslese from this producer: balance, class, freshness, complexity.  Clearly a bad bottle (otherwise, why would Schloss Schönborn keep these in their cellars all these years?) but even taking this into account it’s difficult to recommend seeking this offering out.
