Lemon yellow with emerald hints. Pungent, musky-feral and phenol-rich, with brothy notions of chicken stock, rhododendron, funky lees reduction, mint julip, brine, exotic spice. Quite oaky and we think Noël overreaches here … it obtrudes, makes for lumpy gravy unfortunately. Enveloped for the vintage with layered pear, yellow apple and citrus fruit. Finishes dry, with an earthy minerality. Limpid it’s not. Idiosyncratic, intensely flavorsome, flawed Champs Canet. Drink up.
