Domaine des Huards, Cour-Cheverny ‘Romo’ 2010

Domaine des Huards Cour-Cheverny 2010 #1

A Cour-Cheverny is always 100% Romorantin, an ancient cousin of Chardonnay brought to the Loire from Bourgogne in the 16th century.  Some producing old-vines at Domaine des Huards date back as far 1922.  Raised in stainless steel and aged on the lees for one year.  Organic/BIO.

A pale to emerald iridescence.  Heady and overt; very ’10.   But not too serious; less drama and more laughter.  The familial resemblance seems closer to wicky Chenin Blanc than Chardonnay: balsam apple, bergemot, honey flowers, just-snuffed-out candle.   It grips green (lime) and finishes white (limestone and tuffeau).  Concentrated and long.  Entirely convincing as a mineral-crusted blanc.  This can age.  Now – 2018+.
