Château Magdelaine, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru 1989

Magdelaine 1989

Twenty-five years on tasting.

Saturated ruby, amber to the rim.  All soft-pillows and plush-suggestiveness on entry, more ’89 than Magdelaine.  Rotund, ornamented, sweetly-perfumed, a pot de crème of roast-chestnut, spice-cake and cigar-box.  Broad and voluminous but still complex enough to ponder, the calcaire terroir offering up enough grip and freshness to follow-though.  A Magdelaine for the fruit-hounds among us.  Time to finish these up.
