Château Meyney, Saint-Estèphe 1989

Meyney 1989

Garnet core, mahogany to the rim.  He’s humid and overtly suggestive: latakia tobacco, maluku spice, antique shop, plum tart.  While intense and fullish, his coloring runs wildly outside the lines, unable to follow through, lacking as he is in acidity, grip, focus.   Exotic and forward with an outsized personality, as if he came to our shores by way of the Dutch East India Company.  Enthralling for sure but only for a moment: time to drink up.
