Thirty years on tasting.
Mature garnet, mahogany to the rim. Cos ’85 peaked at age twenty and has been biding his time on a long descent ever since. As a requiem, this one shimmered with all his former bravura. Billowing with pure Saint-Estèphe fragrance, harmonious and ripe without a hint of cookery. Then rising through the middle, a generosity of spherical textures and brambly decadence before the inevitable fade to tobacco leaf, gravel, earth. Not as long as he used to be but well-defined and captivating all the way through. A true gentleman and faithful to his vintage: he came in peace and he’s going out the same way.
