Chateau Montelena, Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Napa 1997

Twenty years on.

Ruby.   There’s a warm chocolate-toast mood here.  The wine is solid, it has a thick trunk yet with air it gets both explicit and nuanced.  Coastal sage and saddle leather; more black currant than cassis and as dusty as our fine state is.  Barb says, “as good as it gets in its fondue of fruit, tannins and acidity”.  The finish spreads and glows with Napa’s spicy granular wildness.  Now – 2027+.
