E. Guigal, Côte-Rôtie La Landonne 1989

Classic Wine Imports, Boston MA.

Thirty years on.

Ruby. A wine of reverse evolution, and one you’ll meet on its terms, not yours. I almost didn’t dare lift the glass. Do I really want to know what monumental implacability smells like? The palate is anvil dense yet sleek for all of its mass, a lavender scented lamb jus. The finish has ore-like intensity and length. It grows impressively in the glass. Another great loping beast from the Guigal stable with a thunderous depth of fruit, still halfway between youthfulness and maturity. Now – 2035+.
