Domaine René Engel, Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru 2002

Twenty years on.

Ruby. Precise nose of considerable depth offers glorious fruit. Mara de bois and red raspberry, seams of peony, cassia, and oolong tea, with a savory undergrowth foundation that persists. The attack is delicious, very expressive. The palate has a round shape, with an intense core from within. There is the ultimate fine fruit here, like the dewiest red raspberry, when they yield to the slightest push of the tongue. The harmony and complexity is first-rate. Becomes more earthy and more floral with air. Now – 2040+.
