Domaine Joseph Faiveley, Gevrey-Chambertin Les Cazetiers 1er Cru 1999

Twenty-five years on.

Ruby. The nose is an old school affair, robust and from within. Chocolate, dark cherry, sweet spices, date, forest undergrowth, a hint of lamb stock, a red meat depth. The palate is closely bound together on its reserved griotte richness. It moves along steadily, its texture is really close. The tannins come along on the second half, are still quite crisp, and form a fine funnel to extend it. The finish is firm and enduring. Will last for ages. Now – 2040+.
