Thirty five years on.
Ruby. Leads with a broad, mineral-driven, earth-laden nose that speaks clearly of place before fruit. There is an immediate sense of sauvage, iron, damp soil, forest underbrush, and a restrained, darker register, rather than overt sweetness.
With air, classic Gevrey fruit asserts itself, sour cherry and darker red berries layered with umami and spice. The palate is powerful and energetic, true to Mazis’ muscular reputation, yet the tannins are finely knit and well-integrated. Acidity is firm and mouthwatering, providing drive and balance and reinforcing the wine’s structural authority. Now – 2035+.
