An effulgent, immature cherry red. Low-toned nose: baritone, broad and deep, with meat, smoke and savory notes. Forest floor and more than a touch of the stems. Rigorous, scrupulous and composed. Well textured, very classy core of red & black fruit on the palate, medium-full body: morello cherry, briary blackberry, raspberry rôti. A metaphorical darkness to this Dujac. A superior grip and acidity on this ’01. Very long on the palate, a saline-mineral-stone bath of a finish. Deadly serious wine. Needs significant time to come into its own (if you had one bottle of this of excellent provenance I wouldn’t touch it before its twentieth birthday). From 2016+.
