Medium straw yellow color. Fresh, high-toned citrus rind and floral nose. Squeaky clean. Medium weight. Nice composure, good tension and downright impressive zip for a Mâcon ’05. Nicely done. To be frank, we expected this to drink ‘old’; it was a bottle that got lost in the cellar shuffle and we were fully expecting it to be past its best. Very pleasantly surprised to discover otherwise. Dominique Lafon says that from ’04 onward he has been getting the kind of results he wants from this Mâcon project he purchased in ’99. The surprising health and longevity of this bottle may bear some of that out. Drink soon. Mâcon is not intended to be aged to eight years like this!
