Château Margaux, Margaux 1989

Margaux 1989

Twenty-five years on tasting.

Glorious, maturing ruby. A ravishing tideswell of cedar, blond tobacco, forest-undergrowth and pansy. Supple, soil-driven myrtille and mûre. Soothing herbal tones. Well-delineated fabric of fruit, acidity and tannin, intricately woven.   The finish is less impact and more orgami detail, a ferrous minerality with lingering intonations of osmanthus and lapsang souchong. Not destined to take its place among the immortal Margauxs, it astonishes for its light and clarity in such a hot vintage. It lifted our spirits; the Margaux of the Jubilee. Now – 2030+.
