Rosenthal Wine Merchant, New York NY.
60% Pinot Noir, 40% Poulsard from a single vineyard in Vadans, north of Arbois. The estate is “en conversion biologique” and whose vines are hillside plantings, southeast facing, at one thousand feet of altitude. Hand harvested, then vinified separately after being destemmed. The Ploussard is aged for one year in stainless steel; the Pinot Noir sees 225 liter barrels for eighteen months.
Five years on.
Carmine. High-mountain water splashes over stone and the fruit runs to frais de bois, the small ones that yield at the slightest push of your tongue. It has a fresh lining, a small note of game and some floating primrose. The dewdrop limpidity buffers the firmness of the wine’s acidity. The finish makes a direct run, has mineral tang. Now – 2026+.
