Domaine Samuel Billaud, Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru 2017

Five years on.

From mostly estate fruit, of which one fifth is raised in wood. From a hectare of 45-year-old vines from two parcels in Montée de Tonnerre and high up in Chapelot, cropped at 25 to 30 hl/ha.

Some reduction, so decant. In color a bit more yellow than green. The bouquet is stylish, has a coated, slightly torrefacted aroma. It cashes the check that the color has written, as it segues through layers of peach, apple, and lime. The palate has good sap, inner freshness and zest, and shows the weight and intensity of this site. The finish travels far, with fine detail, its kimmeridgian qualities well inset. Now – 2030.
