Ruby. This bottle was utterly compelling, opening with a soaring, deeply perfumed nose of sweet dark fruit, Syrah spice and savory nuance that immediately announced its pedigree. On the palate, the wine delivered a rush of vibrant, red-fleshed fruit that belied its age, framed by surprisingly youthful, grainy tannins and a silken, polished texture. With air, the wine briefly tightened, retreating into a more structural, introspective phase as the fruit became less overt, yet this only underscored its underlying balance and authority rather than detracting from the experience. As it evolved in the glass, layers of herb, smoke, cedar, dried flowers, tobacco and leather emerged, adding complexity and depth. Above all, the wine remained impeccably poised and sensual, with remarkable harmony and a finish that lingered effortlessly. This is an especially fine bottle—already a profound pleasure to drink, yet clearly still endowed with immense reserve and the capacity to evolve gracefully over the next twenty years. Now – 2045+.
