Domaine Louis Jadot, Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques 1er Cru 1996

Thirty years on.

The nose opens with a distinctly earthy, Gevrey-typical profile of damp leaves, wild berries, animal fur, and forest floor, gradually unfurling notes of dried cherry, leather, and savory spice. There is a clear sense of completeness and authenticity here, with nothing out of place.

On the palate, sweet red and dark berry fruit sits at the core, supported by fresh, vintage-signature acidity that brings energy and definition without disrupting balance. Black cherry and plum flavors are layered with meaty spice, giving the wine very good weight, and confidently structured.

Well integrated and harmonious, this delivers satisfying sweetness of fruit alongside earthy complexity and savory depth. A thoroughly convincing and characterful expression that drinks well now and should continue to do so for some time. Now – 2035+.
