Château L’Eglise-Clinet, Pomerol 1995

Ruby. The wine presents a layered and evolving bouquet that bridges dark and red fruit profiles. Aromas of blackberry, cassis, plum, and black cherry intermingle with more mature, tertiary nuances: leather, tobacco, coffee, underbrush, and a distinct ferrous note. Subtle herbal accents, suggestive of sage and wild fennel, add lift and complexity, while gentle spice tones of nutmeg and mocha round out the aromatic impression.

On the palate, the wine is medium to medium-full bodied, combines density with refinement. The entry is polished and composed, revealing refined fruit framed by well-integrated acidity. Good substance through the mid-palate, lending texture and harmony, while savory, mineral, and faintly meaty elements provide structure and depth. Tannins are largely melting and well managed, though a slight coarseness or firm grip emerges toward the finish in some bottles.

The finish is long, perfumed, and balanced, if occasionally lacking the breadth of crescendo with the best vintages. Nonetheless, the wine shows admirable precision, energy, and harmony. Drinking beautifully now, with sufficient structure to suggest continued graceful evolution. Now – 2040.
