Glossy ruby red, very little in the way of color development. Overt, glam nose with a metallic lustre: mix of spiced red and black fruit, oleander, roasted coffee, beef au jus. Now background toasted oak tones. Emphatically black fruited on the palate, tumescent with a late-summer warmth bordering on confiture: macerated raspberry, cassis, valhrona chocolate. Well-judged acidity keeps this on point. No astringency to be found here: we think Henri Boillot managed the extraction quite deftly in ’00. Flavorsome, suave Volnay with a new wave tilt. But don’t push your luck with ’00 Volnays; finish these up over the next two years. Now – 2015.
