E. Guigal, Côte-Rôtie La Mouline 1978

Guigal Mouline #2

Thirty-five years on tasting.

Sonorous garnet,  monumental amplitude at its core.  Come-hither floral and game essences.  Spicy, top-drawer toasted.  A full-bodied wine, with staggering saturation for its age.  Fresh as a daisy.  Poised yet insistent black fruit: kirsch, black raspberry liqueur and sloe.   The texture of plush velvet.  Succulent and very long, finishing in crescendo.  A wine of glossy seamlessness over specificity, more Marcel Guigal than Côte-Rôtie.  But man, what an impressive drink!  Now – 2023+.
