Drappier, Brut Blanc de Blancs Signature Aube Non Vintage

Drappier BDB NV #3

95% Chardonnay, 5% Pinot Vrai (Pinot Blanc) from Urville. Full malolactic. Dosage: 8 g/l. 2012 release.

May 2015

Yellow-gold. There is something reassuring about Drappier and their atavistic sensibility, a faithfulness borne back to when Aube was just a place out in the sticks. The style is patrician, classically appointed, toasted. The fruit is tropical yet demure, aligned by his pinpoint minerality.  Full Aube flavors with fine vibrancy and tension. Has the symmetry to age. Now – 2017+.

April 2013

Yellow-gold. A broad, fullish, zesty nose of bakery notes, candle wax and vanilla flowers. The palate is a juicy but nuanced fruit salad of mangosteen, pineapple, yellow peach. A chalky minerality. Subtle, pin-prick mousse. Fullish bead. A nice finish of some length: pebbles and dry seltzer (soda on the rocks if you will). A wine with some flair and character. Individual even. Very good. And this NV will improve with some time in the cellar. Now – 2017.
