F. E. Trimbach, Riesling Cuvée Frédéric Emile 2004

November 2024

Twenty years on.

Yellow gold. This offers a beguiling nose made of bergamot, lime cordial, white tea, dried herbs, smoke, a whiff of petrol. It offers a beautiful delineation on the palate paired with a textural smoothness, with almond-infused citrus and stone fruit flavors. The finish is precise and somewhat direct but hugely satisfying. Now – 2035+.

March 2009

Five years on.

White gold. Racy, precise, a touch fusel on the nose:  hay, citrus zest, balsam, talc and an ocean salinity.  Not closed but a bit tucked in energy-wise. Bone dry, rigorous on the palate: pomelo, blood orange, kaffir lime.  Intense but somewhat withdrawn; subsumed by its almost cyanic minerality. Needs time to find its generosity. Another low-fat, mineral-rich offering from Trimbach and a fine bottle of Fred. Now – 2030+.
