Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair, Échézeaux Grand Cru 2006

Twenty years on.

Ruby. This is a wine of striking elegance rather than overt power, opening with a beautifully perfumed nose of ripe red and blue cherry, violets, dark florals, and baking spice, with subtle undertones of earth and minerality. The bouquet is immediately seductive yet continues to unfold in the glass, revealing increasing complexity and focus.

On the palate, it delivers a full yet weightless impression, driven by incredibly pure blue- and black-fruited flavors accented by violet notes. The texture is silky and mouth-caressing, supported by ultra-fine, velvety tannins and seamlessly integrated acidity. While still quite primary and tensile at its core, the wine maintains remarkable clarity and precision, with nothing out of place.

The finish is long, finely detailed, and gently caressing, lingering with blueberries, spice, and mineral nuance. Polished, persistent, and undeniably charming, this is a superbly crafted wine that is already drinking beautifully while retaining the structure and focus to evolve gracefully. Made from old vines in lieu-dits Cruots and Champs Traversin. Now – 2040+.
